What Should I Get – A 2.1 Speaker System Or 5.1 Speaker System?
I have two likely speaker systems in mind:
Logitech Z-4 Speaker system – 2.1
Logitech X-540 Speaker system – 5.1
Please ignore the type of sound card – it isn’t relevant
I cannot have the speakers behind me, so they will all have to be on the desk. I know that 2.1 is more suited to this kind of setup, but if I have 5.1 with all the satellites and the centre speaker on the table, will I get a really good 5.1 surround sound?
I don’t want to waste my money on something that I can’t take full advantage of.
By the way, for the speakers, I will get a different sound card respectively, so the 2.1 speakers will get a dedicated 2.1 sound card, and vice versa with the 5.1 system.
Thanks.
Also, if you can recommend a better speaker system for me, I would also appreciate that.

If I had to spend $ 250, you should get Bose or Polk?
I have a receiver Kenwood VR-205 (with a capacity of 5.1) and two Polk bookshelf speakers. But for $ 250, I can get either a Polk subwoofer, or can I get the Bose Companion 3 Series II is a 2.1 system. Then really, with what I have, I can have either a 2.1 or 2.1 Bose Polk. What do you think?
If you like the Polk shelves, I would for the submarine. If the spokes are a series of Polk is always available and a matching center channel, which provides an upgrade path and the path to 5.1. The route you could go is to pass the time Polk rays for your rear surround channel and get a new set of Left, Center, Right speakers When budget allows in the future. The best thing is to have your left, center and right of the same manufacturer and line speaker even by that manufacturer. I am not a fan of Bose (with their old products, decades ago), so that Bose will not get a recommendation from me.

How Do I Burn Dvd Which Can Run In My Bose Lifestyle Home Theater System?

It depends on the type of desk you have. If you have a typical rectangular desk, I’d go with a 2.1 system for sure, since you say you can’t put any speakers behind you.
I have an L-shaped corner workstation desk, so if you have one of those, you could put the left/right front speakers right next to your monitor and put the surround speakers at the extreme edges of your desk, maybe angled toward your chair position. It wouldn’t be ideal, but it might work well enough. See Source(s) for an image that is very similar to my desk to see what I mean.
Update: I’ve always heard good things about Logitech computers, so you’ve probably made fine choices there. I have the Altec Lansing MX5021 2.1 setup and except for some *slight* hiss when there’s no music/movie/system sounds playing, I love it. You might consider the FX series from Altec Lansing (see Source(s)).
5.1 is obviously a better buy than a 2.1, as it will give you better sound and more sound from more angles than a 2.1, but it’s all up to how much room you have. If it’s gonna be a computer set-up in a small area you should go with the 2.1 but if it’s in a large area and involves TV watching or a lot of movie watching than I recommend you get the 5.1′s.
