Need Help Setting Up A Home Theater System?
I have a DVD player that only has analog audio outputs and 1 digital output. However I just got a receiver/subwoofer and speaker system as a gift and it does not have a digital input port. It has six ports (one for each speaker (5) and one for subwoofer). How can I connect from digital out (DVD) to 6 Analog In (receiver)??

Selection of home theater speakers?
Hello, I'm looking for a speaker setup for my home theater system. I watched Spending about 500. I heard a lot about the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Surround Sound Speaker System. I do not care if I have to buy sepperate or anything, I just want elegant speaker, be careful not to their size, they sound very good. I need a setting 7.1, the power President to handle about 120 and about 230 sub. Thank you very much to help Hurricane Mitch.
For $ 500, you can not get a great Speakers at the power that you have specified. The brochures are misleading and and power. Here's a better way. One way to specify the average power is just stated that 20W or 30W. The second term is that it is PMPO Power point and it can be instantaneous maximum 6-7 times the average power (if Please see my reply to another question more on "Please guide the purchase of a new ..?"). 7.1 Woofer only useful when the original disc (especially DVD) was recorded at 7.1. Otherwise, you will receive only what is on record in stereo or general 5.1. So if you're worried about buying a quality stereo or 5.1 to 20 watts per channel is quite reasonable.

if your dvd player has discrete channel analog outputs (that is, analog outputs for each fl, center, fr, sr, sl and sub), you may be able to put those to the multi-channel input of your reciever. i just have never seen a dvd player with that kind of connections, but i did use such a setup for my computer which had a 6-channel sound card and internal digital audio processing.
unfourtanetly you cannot… to get true dolby sound out of it it would have to be hooked in to a digital coax or a fiber optic.. your reciever does not have a decoder build into it so youd need a dvd player that decodes and outputs the correct analog channels for you to recieve the correct sounds..
