Becuase I know they are officially PC speakers…
If not, can you suggest anything better for a similar price?

If you are planning to spend $400 and want theater in box. I would recommend to go for Sony BRAVIA™ Home Theater System (DAV-HDX500) or Onkyo HT-SR800S. Onkyo would cost you $429 from circuit city or and $399 from 6thave.com.
Sony would costs you $400 from circuit city. If you go to store to pick it up use this coupon for $40 savings

If you order online, use this coupon LPAMPVKAJ4 for $30 savings
I am also in the process of buying a home theater. I have to make a decision between the 2 above.

Brands like Marantz and JBl are better. You can visit Audio House as they have a biggest sound rooms in town. You can test out a wide range of brands.

Most surround sound speaker systems around the $400 price range would be about the same in quality. However i would check out a few other brands that might give you better value .Have a look below and see what you thinkhttp://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Infinity-TSS…http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-RM6750http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Harman-Multi…
