This is actually a very simple problem: your DVD player is a standard one, and will not play DivX or Xvid encoded AVI files.
Here’s the simplest way to go about it. Get yourself a good burning software suite like Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio — I use Ashampoo myself. But these have to be the Complete Versions, not trial ones, else they will not do this.
You just choose to burn to DVD, I use an external USB DVD burner for burning my DVDs, and so far, all my DVDs are playing on my home theater system.

I’m not familiar with “mininova,” but you’re obviously burning your DVD in the original format downloaded and that format is NOT a DVD format (VOB file type).
It’s probably much smaller than an actual DVD, which means it might be DivX or Xvid.
What you need is a video converter. The best one on the market is TMPGEnc. There ARE some free versions and some trial versions. You’ll want to find out what format your original downloaded movie is using for compression (codec).
This little tool will tell you exactly what audio AND video codecs are being used or needed for any audio or video file. It’s free (start here):http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
Download GSpot and install (I think it MIGHT be stand-alone).
Then go to THIS site and get the necessary TMPGEnc (Encoder):http://www.tmpgenc.net/en/index.html
Here is a GREAT resource for ALL your video needs, whether it’s creation, copying, encoding, analysis, codecs, etc.http://www.videohelp.com/
There’s everything you need. WARNING: A full length movie can take anywhere from 12-20 hours to properly encode, but you can just start it encoding and then go to work or go about your business and TMPGEnc will do all the work. Be SURE you “LOAD” the DVD NTSC file for proper encoding to USA DVD format. DVD PAL is a Europe or foreign based system and runs at a different frame rate).

You can’t. The bose system don’t have the codex for it. You buy a simple 20 dollar multiformat dvd player and it’ll work but not on an expensive bose system.

try DVD shrink 3.2, I don’t think Vista Busisness is the right version to be using, maybe home premium would have been better?
