My wires are long, so I stapled them to the carpet all the way to the picture. You would have a problem if you had hanging speakers because you can't get them up the wall without being noticed. But yeah I stapled them along the corners of the carpet all the way to the back.

If you have a basement, go down through the basement, and up through the floor at the connection points. If not, under a carpet, or you could put in new molding on the floor, putting the wires behind. Good luck.

What we did was run it along the baseboards. When we ran it up the wall I framed 3 8 by 10 black and white photos and hung them vertically along the wire that was pulled tight. The speaker sits above the photos and it looks better than just a wire hanging down. A friend of mine covered hers with some funky mirrors hung in the same manner. Good luck.

I hung mine along the corner of the ceiling and then painted then the same color as the walls. Thi s was the easier route. You can always fish them through the walls but that is a pain.

wireless would be best
if not, just tuck them under the carpet or depending on floor type you could drill a hole and go under the floor and back up on the other side.
We ran my sons wires into a closet and up into the attic across his den and down in each corner.

Ideally, you should fish the wires through your wall and run them across your ceiling (if possible). If you have access above your ceiling (either by lifting suspended ceiling tiles or via your attic) the job is a snap and produces a much cleaner, professional looking job.

Okay... the easy option would be to just run them undeneath your carpet, but you can also try going to an electricity gadget shop and ask for a wire organiser, there are so many of them, but they are all very useful for concealing, and disguising wires...you can get the ones that actually fit along the skirting boards, or the ones that fit vertically, or wall box', you basically just have to look around for the ideal one that suites your need, the instructions are sure to come with the product. Good Luck finding the right covering for your wires.

I put my wires in the corners and covered them with molding. If you already have molding the push the wires behind it. you may have to pull it out a little and then tap it back in.

Well, not sure on the wireless solution, but have the same problem, so know what you mean.
I've opted with under the carpet but this limits speaker locations due to short cables.
Only other solution that I thought of was to run the wires through a cable tidy (basically plastic square tube in white from the back of the TV, and along the ceiling, this solutions only really good if you have white ceiling and walls, or are willing to paint the tubing the color of the wall.
Otherwise it's probably best to use the same idea along the skirting (you'll probably have to send both rear speakers the same way to avoid the door, and you'll most certainly have to purchase further wire, (again not sure if there would be a problem with degradation of sound quality over a great distance, but I'd suspect a further 10 meters of cable shouldn't cause too much problems on a decent system.)
Again the solution above can be done under the carpet, and probably a better choice for (out of sightness), beware though don't pull up all the carpet, only small areas, and use a wire coat hanger to get from hole to hole, otherwise you could have a carpet shrinking issue, or looseness).
Hope that's helpful.

If you dont want to spend $ on wireless equipment, try arranging the room around the outlet so they won't be running across it.

Here's another link to check for good prices. $500 is tough though. Maybe start with one component in that range and you can build on the system later, like his birthday maybe.

Get one for sure. That's expensive equipment and you want it protected. Most on the market are satifactory but talk to the sales rep about what he thinks is best for you (it's not necessarily the most expensive one as you know).
This site might help you choose.

Go to Crutfield's website. Look at the basic ONKYO system. These are all in one systems with a reciever and speakers together. Some also include a DVD player. I also saw a nice JBL brand system on Wal-Mart's website. You can get a really nice sounding one for $500 or less.

Music and Movies are really very different.
Cheap, less accurate speakers work great for movies because movie sound tracks are:
- Highly compressed
- Very 'sparse' compared to music
- You dont listen to movie soundtracks over and over and over..
I might suggest you have 2 systems: one for music, and a 'box' system from Yamaha for movies. I think if you get a dual-zone receiver - you can use inexpensive speakers for Zone A, and put higher quality music speakers on Zone B.
Below are my suggestions:
- Music speakers: Magnapan Panel speakers: $600
- Subwoofer: SVS Woofers: $500-$800
- Yamaha RX-V .. perhaps a 600 series receiver: $600
This will give you a audiophile quality system with lots of accuracy and detail.
With the $300 or more - watch your local Craigslist for someone selling a 5.0 speaker setup from a name-brand speaker company: Definitive, Polk, Klipshc, Energy, etc. Use these for your movie watching.

My parents did this same type of thing years ago, and they have had no problems whatsoever. They went under the carpet by making very small incisions where the wire was to enter and come back out. It's the easiest if you have a wall that you are doing it next to, so the wires don't go in random directions. Use a fish wire (a metal wire used for fishing and pulling wires through pipes etc.) and push it to the side you want the wires to enter in. attach and secure the wire to the fish line and pull all the way through. Really easy to do, and you're never going to need to access the wires unless you are changing out your system. Hope that helps - good luck ;)

I would say it is a scam. The money does go through but could take days not to mention he could cancel payment after receiving. Paying more than you are asking is the tip off. You could ask the place you have it listed with if this buyer has any problems.

Sounds like line hum,, the frequency 60 hz of the electrical transmission system. You need to connect a ground wire if your equipment is not grounded. or you may have created a" hum loop" that is plugging in connected pieces of equipment from two grounded sources ie two outlets. try disconnecting any connected items (tape player/CD/DVD etc until you find the problem item)

I actually went as far as to put a U.P.S. on mine ($50) to protect against surges, brownouts, and momentary blackouts. A cheap insurance policy.

Often times your "high end" treble settings are too high. The bass frequencies mask the hiss associated with too high treble. Also, make sure your sound card settings are correct. If you have a graphic equalizer, play with those setting to see if you can isolate the trouble.

Are you talking about Yamaha electronics or speakers? Yamaha makes great receivers and I would stick with them for that, but I would look elsewhere for speakers. A 2-3k budget is quite reasonable for a very nice setup...and the possibilities are almost endless. I suggest you grab a handful of CDs, go to some real audio shops, and listen to some good speakers. The sound characteristics of speakers are diverse and personal - nobody can tell you what sounds good to you.

Hi,
It is so much easier to go to Cheapest Prices Search Engine. They have all of the sites listed, plus more than any other site. They also have over 1 million consumer written reviews.
Almost every store and almost all online merchants are there becasue it really is that good.

I would say go ahead n buy the "vintage receiver", I am still using a Marantz 1060 amplifier bought in Amsterdam back in 1975 and its just right for smaller rooms. Its connected to a DVD, tape deck and a VCD player, and a pair of old Sony speakers, sounds just fine.

Hey its funny that you ask. I just bought a PS3 and was looikng for the same thing a 5.1 system and I ended up getting a Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV and let me tell you it is awesome. I really appriciate what Bose brings to the tabel and alot of people bash them. But we all have our opinions and Im not here to bash nothin. But i would recommend a Bose if ya got the money. If not there is an Onkyo 7.1 system that I had my Eyes on before i ran into Bose here is the link to what I know is pretty good.
Here is the Onkyo = http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo-HT-…
and here is the Bose 10 = http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Bose-Acou…
Only thing is that with the Bose system you would have to buy a reciever and with the Onkyo it is all there and you get 7 speakers so it is really up to you. I suggest you go and hear them and some other to see what you like best.

Try your headset on another computer to see if they work correctly. If they do, the jack on your computer needs repair. If not, the headset is broken.

As long as the transaction remains within paypal you should be okay. But first, contact pay pal and find out what you need to know about the process and how to do transactions (do that first). Do not agree to accept a check or a money order instead of paypal, no matter how much the customer offers to overpay (those checks will be faked).

The folks who think "vintage will blow you away" are likely talking about vacuum tube amps/receiver and I think you'll find the 2226 is a solid state receiver (I had a 2276 -- 76 W -- long ago), so it's not any better (and probably worse) than the new Yamaha stuff you just bought.
Many of the new high-end receivers are getting great reviews vs. the "golden ear" standard equipment of the reviewers, so "blow away" is a relative term...
Whatever you get, get it on approval so you can try it for a day or so and then take it back if it doesn't sound good with your room and speakers.
Good Luck!

Go to Ultimate Electronics or a place that has higher end equiptment other than Best Buy. Your'e best bet is to buy a DENON home theater reciever. Talk to the tech and make sure you can hook all these up thru the recievers rear ports. You should be able to get one starting around 400 bucks then all you'll need are some good speakers. I like JBL's

If you want the consumers report and rating on it, check out http://www.cnet.com and type that speaker model in.

I have heard them and like anything else that Bose makes the hype is hot and the products not! There is an old saying out there that still rings true today: "No Highs, No Lows, Must Be Bose!

There are many settings you have to check and change to make things work.
On your DVD player, make sure it's set to bitstream the audio to your receiver, and set the video output to the resolution of your TV, whether it's 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
On your receiver, set the surround mode to auto, meaning it will properly detect and decode whatever audio format is being bitstreamed to it, and make sure to tell the receiver you have a 5.1 speaker setup. Lastly, turn off all DSP modes on your receiver when you are listening to a surround source. DSP modes are a surround EFFECT that can alter the proper mix of your audio, often with a negative outcome.
It wouldn't hurt to make sure your TV's internal speakers are off while you're at it, because that can muddy the audio waters too.

First thing you don't need 8gb of ram (more isn't always better), downgrade to just four and go with a 32 bit OS(saves trouble with compatibility issues in the long run). And as for a graphics card what kind of games do you intend on playing? If your answers include COD or Crysis then you should reconsider the GT220 even the 4610 is better. Unless you plan on playing 1024*768 res with all the settings down. Because of the larger monitor you should look in to a 9800gtx or 9600GSO, ATI 4670, or
Nvidia: 9600GT, 8800GT/9800GT, 8800GTS, 9800GTX/GTX+/GTS250, GTX260, GTX275, etc
ATI: 4830, 4770, 4850, 4870, 4850x2, 4890, etc
Try looking into places like frys.com newegg.com tigerdirect.com if your tech savy you could build your own system to better customize it to suit your needs

Sony has done a good job in incorporating HDMI in their newer component systems, because obviously they know what's up and know there is a need for optimum HD ports for all of today's peripherals namely PS3. We have the Blu-Ray Disc Matching Home theater 5.1 with the tower speakers. This goes for $500. They also have the same system with the smaller speakers at $400. They also have several Bravia theater sync systems as well. All of these have 3 HDMI inputs and one output, so everything goes through your sound system and then your sound system outputs to TV. These systems also have optical and coax inputs as well if you feel the need to use those. These component systems do NOT have a DVD player, but I suspect you probably don't want or need one with the PS3 hooked up to it.
Research this source link from the Sonystyle.com store. Also if you don't mind signing up for a credit card, you can get $100 off your first purchase. We did this to get our system and no complaints from us.

I would recommend a surge UPS combo unit. Plug any devices that connect to the TV into it as well surges and transients can come from anywhere.

Yamaha is a good product, Home theater is not for music but music can be played on a home theater but two speakers and a sub are the preffered audiophile setup. This is also what i have i use a Harman kardon amplifier, Kef speakers, and a velodyne subwoofer but i dont consider myself an audiophile.

You can buy a splitter box with a switch, which allows you to connect up to 3 or 4 sources to one input. In other words, you can connect your PS2 and DVD system to it and switch between the two without disconnecting anything. Look in the back of the DVD system. Find a yellow jack which says "TV OUT" or something like that. Connect a yellow RCA cable to it, and the other end into the splitter. Then do the same with the PS2 yellow cable, connect it to the second input on the splitter. Plug the white and red cables from the PS2 into the splitter as well. Now, find the "Audio Out" jacks on the projector. Connect another set of red and white cables to it, and the other ends to the "VCR IN" jacks on the DVD system. Connect all the speakers as directed in the DVD system manual. Now, you should have the PS2 plugged into the splitter, and the audio from the projector connected to the DVD system. Take a yellow RCA cable and connect it into the "VCR IN" jack on the DVD system. Connect the other end to the "Video Out" jack on the splitter. Now, take another yellow cable and connect one end to the "Video Out" jack on the DVD system. The other end goes into the "Video In" jack on the projector. Turn on all equipment and follow the projector manual to find out how to switch to the A/V inputs (could be RGB In, VCR In, A/V In, etc.). Then make sure the DVD system is set to the right signal, TV or VCR, something like that. Turn the PS2 on and play an audio CD or something, anything with audio and video. Once you have the sound running to the DVD system and the video running through the projector, you're good to go. Keep in mind, you might have to buy the RCA cables from an electronics store such as Future Shop, The Source, Radio Shack, or Best Buy. If I'm not explaining this stuff easily enough for you, or if I'm confusing you, you can probably ask one of the clerks or representatives in the store to help you out.
Good luck, and I hope you get your theatre running as intended.

HD surround sound requires a digital audio connection for full digital surround sound, but should be able to play pro-logic if using an rca line audio (the red and white, right and left connection).
My first question is, what output are you using on the TV. It needs to be a digital output like an optical digital audio or coax (rare on tvs)digital audio to get true digital surround sound. (if you are getting surround sound off your antenna, it is a basic surround like dolby pro logic which can be created from the regular left and right audio). If you have the directv hooked up to the tv with an hdmi cable, it would make sense that the surround wouldn't be passed through. All in all, there is probably a better way to hook it up. Feel free to go to www.easier.tv and click on ask the guru. Write in your complete hookup (ie. DVD hooked up with component and rca) and all audio outputs from the TV.

For that system to work you need either optical or PCM out from the PC to work properly. The system cannot take discrete analog ins for sound. so if you go with analog you will be stuck with pro-logic. If you do have optical out on the PC you may have a settings or driver issue or bad cable. Please provide more details.

As Ducksoup said most likely when someone says vintage they are referring to tube. Most audio enthusists would frown upon your IPOD, as keeping the signal in the analog domain is keeping the music to it's truest form. Depending on the quality of the D/A of the CD or IPOD you choose will make a difference in the output you hear. Having said that the best way to pick out equipment is based on how it sounds to your ears. A/B several setups.

Impedance. Car speakers are rated 4 ohms. Home speakers are 8 ohms. It is easier to overdrive your car speakers with your home amplifier and blow them.

Overall pretty good specs. You should seriously conider building your own computer. It only takes a few hours and can save possibly 1000 dollars to build your own. If you don't kow where to start, try the website listed in my sources. (They sell all the parts you need to make your own computer)
Hoever, if you don't want to go that route, then yes, those specs are very good.
Have a great day! =)

Well in your budget range if you can find an Onkyo system they are better, but if you feel it's good enough I guess I can live with it.
Some of us love audio and wouldn't be caught dead buying that system. Doesn't target sell food?
So I would live off the target card and spend food money on some great towers and a receiver.
But for you it's probably fine. Just as long as you aren't buying Bose I won't balk too much.
FYI those go for sub 200 dollars on ebay.

Klipsch and Polk both make good systems for 500 or so. this is just speakers only, no receiver.
Bose is good but pricey.
don't buy a "home theater in a box" buy the receiver separate and the speakers separate, you'll pay more but get much better quality.
if you want the all in one though, check out sony's with built in blu ray player. blu ray much better than standard dvd.
also, make sure you get a good subwoofer, it really makes all the difference.
