The speaker enclosures and crossovers are designed for a specific driver which has a particular response curve. Putting something else in there would likely result in poor spectral linearity. Consider replacing your old speaker with a new one. Stay with name brands like JBL, Infinity, Polk audio, Definitive Technology, Paradigm, and Boston to name a few.
